The IWE explained

What is the Intelligent
Wellbeing Engine?

The IWE is a validated wellbeing measurement tool built into the Alltoogether platform. It uses short, regular check-ins to measure employee mental health, physical health, financial wellbeing, and work ability - then surfaces actionable data at three levels: employee, manager, and HR/executive.

How it works

Five interconnected steps that turn validated screening into real-time insight and automatic support routing.

1
Short check-ins
Employees complete 2-3 minute surveys using validated instruments: PHQ-9 (depression), GAD-7 (anxiety), WHO-5 (general wellbeing), plus financial and musculoskeletal health questions. Done regularly, without friction.
2
Validated scoring
Every response is scored against research-backed thresholds, not arbitrary benchmarks. When a score crosses a clinically recognised threshold, the system flags it and can trigger support automatically.
3
Three dashboard views
Employees see their personal health score and trend. Managers see team-level wellbeing index (aggregated only, never individual scores). HR/Executives see the whole organisational picture with department heatmaps.
4
Dynamic signposting
When someone flags a need, the IWE identifies which specific service inside their existing insurance policy covers it and shows them how to access it. Support is just a click away.
5
JDR framework
The Job Demands-Resources model measures workload, time pressure, autonomy, and manager support - the structural factors that predict burnout before it shows up in absence data.

What makes it different

Not every wellbeing platform is built the same way. The IWE stands apart on six key principles.

Built in, not bolted on
The IWE is native to the Alltoogether benefits platform, not a separate vendor integration. One login, one experience.
No extra cost
Included as standard with Alltoogether broking. No per-employee fees, no platform surcharge, no licensing per department.
Validated instruments
Uses research-standard screening tools (PHQ-9, GAD-7, WHO-5, HSE Management Standards), not engagement surveys or proprietary scoring.
Privacy-first design
Employers see aggregated data only. Individual health scores are never visible to the organisation - only to the employee themselves.
Measurement meets insurance
The IWE connects wellbeing data to real insurance coverage. When someone needs support, they find it through their existing policy.
Measures work conditions
Captures job demands, autonomy, and manager support alongside symptoms. Gives you the structural insights that predict and prevent burnout.

The science behind it

The IWE doesn't use proprietary scoring or marketing-friendly metrics. It's built on validated instruments used in occupational health and clinical research globally. These are the tools that clinicians, occupational health professionals, and researchers trust.

PHQ-9
Patient Health Questionnaire-9
The gold-standard depression screening tool. Measures severity of depressive symptoms on a scale validated across thousands of studies. Used in NHS, private practice, and occupational health globally.
GAD-7
Generalised Anxiety Disorder-7
Validated anxiety screening tool. Captures both frequency and impact of anxiety symptoms. Widely used in employee wellbeing programs and clinical settings.
WHO-5
WHO (Five) Well-Being Index
The World Health Organization's validated measure of psychological wellbeing. Five simple questions that predict broader mental health and quality of life.
HSE MS
HSE Management Standards
The Health and Safety Executive's framework for work-related stress. Measures the job demands, control, support, relationships, and role clarity that either protect or harm wellbeing.

The IWE also tracks meaningful change using the Reliable Change Index - a statistical method that tells you whether shifts in someone's score reflect real improvement, real decline, or just normal variation. This moves you beyond vanity metrics into evidence that intervention is working.
