Tick the work that sits with your team. Most of it only becomes visible when someone has to chase it. Then forward the list to whoever owns your broker relationship.
Who processes agreed joiners and leavers with the insurers each week?New starters onto every scheme on time. Leavers off cover, so nobody is paying for people who left in March.
Where do policy and member changes get recorded, and by whom?Opt-ins, opt-outs, and the member data that reporting depends on.
Who answers your employees' cover and claims questions? What does my medical cover include? How do I claim? If the answer routes through HR, HR is the help desk.
What happens when a claim query stalls?Somebody chases it until it is answered. The question is whether that somebody is paid to, or is you.
Where can an employee see what cover they actually have?Without asking HR, and without a login nobody remembers.
How does a salary change reach the cover it affects?Life cover and income protection are usually salary-linked. Pay reviews happen every year. Something has to carry one to the other.
Who keeps the partners' schemes separate and right?Partner life, partner critical illness, LLP members who are not employees. Different schemes, different rules, and the costliest place to get a category wrong.
When someone makes partner, who moves their cover? Most schemes run multiple categories: partners, fee earners, business services. A promotion is a category change. Miss it and someone is insured as the person they used to be.
Who owns the renewal calendar, and when do you find out?A renewal that arrives six weeks out as a spreadsheet is not a calendar. It is an ambush.
What gets confirmed back to you, and when?Changes requested are not changes made. Silence is not confirmation.
Count the ticks. Every one is work that has a rightful owner, and it is not your team. If your broker carries all ten, keep them. You have one of the good ones, and this page cost you two minutes. If your team carries most of them, that is not a workload problem. It is an ownership problem wearing one.
What to do with this
Forward it to whoever owns your broker relationship, with one line: "this is the work that keeps landing on us." That sentence starts the right conversation, whoever it ends up with.
